American Consumer Credit Counseling Expands Community Education Team, Continues Commitment to Educating Massachusetts Consumers on Financial Management

Leading national debt counseling non-profit promotes Clete Thomas to Community Outreach Coordinator, hosts 143 free financial education workshops throughout Commonwealth communities in the third quarter of 2012

(Boston, MA) – October 17, 2012- American Consumer Credit Counseling announced today the successful completion of 143 financial education workshops in the third quarter of 2012. During the past three months, ACCC held free financial education workshops on a wide range of topics, such as credit management, identity theft, and financial crises. Nearly 2,000 Massachusetts consumers from across the state were in attendance.

“Managing your finances can be an incredibly stressful and complex task, especially in difficult economic times like these,” said Steve Trumble, president and CEO of ACCC, based in Newton, Mass. “By working one on one with groups and starting at the community level, we can make sure that thousands of consumers make the best decisions for themselves and their families.”

The 1,799 workshop participants represented consumers of a variety of ages and backgrounds, including seniors, teens, veterans, professionals, families, and homeless individuals. All workshops are taught by ACCC’s certified financial educators from the organization’s Community Education Team.

In addition, the Newton non-profit added Clete Thomas to its Community Education Team. Clete has been with ACCC since 2011 and prior to this role worked as a counselor at the non-profit.

“Clete is a wonderful addition to this growing team and he brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge,” said Trumble. “Each year we are seeing a greater demand for community financial education workshops, and this expansion means that we will be able to reach and educate even more consumers on critical topics such as budgeting, credit and debt.”

Prior to ACCC Thomas worked as a general manager at Mortgage Funding Corp. until transitioning to the role of counselor at American Consumer Credit Counseling.

“I look forward to this exciting new opportunity,” said Thomas. “As a Community Outreach Coordinator I will be able to provide consumers with the knowledge and power to manage their own finances that will, hopefully, help them avoid financial pitfalls.”
