American Consumer Credit Counseling Furthers Commitment to Strenthenging Financial Education Among Massachusetts Consumers

Leading national debt counseling non-profit hosts more than 178 financial education workshops throughout Commonwealth communities in the first quarter of 2012

Boston, MA – March 30, 2012

Financial EducationAmerican Consumer Credit Counseling announced today the successful completion of more than 178 financial education workshops in the first quarter of 2012, along with the launch of a strong second quarter lineup. During the past three months, nearly 4,000 consumers from across the Commonwealth attended ACCC’s free financial education workshops, which provided education on topics ranging from money management to identity theft.

“Arming consumers with financial education and resources is more important now than ever,” said Steve Trumble, president and CEO of Newton-based ACCC. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with so many organizations throughout the Commonwealth that, like ACCC, are committed to helping all consumers overcome economic difficulties and establish financial health and stability.”

Since the beginning of 2012, nearly 1,000 consumers from a variety of audiences that include youth, seniors, military, homeless, and unemployed, have participated in ACCC workshops. These workshops included education and personalized counseling on a variety of topics relating to the financial issues that consumers face, including money management, understanding credit, and identity theft.

ACCC maintains a strong commitment to non-profit organizations that include financial education as part of their programming including Father Bill’s and MainSpring, a Brockton based non-profit dedicated to ending

“At Father Bill’s and MainSpring we have made financial literacy a key part of our workforce training program,” said  John Yazwinski, President and CEO of Father Bill’s and MainSpring based in Brockton. “By partnering with training organizations such as ACCC, we are able to provide men and women who are recovering from homelessness with critical resources and education on issues such as budgeting and credit management – skills that are vital to achieving a stable financial future.”

All workshops are taught by ACCC’s certified financial educators.  Following the workshops, ACCC’s expert personal finance counselors were available for more detailed, one-on-one counseling sessions where they were able to discuss individualized plans to overcome debt.

ACCC is kicking off the second quarter with innovative programming and continuing partnerships with a variety of organizations throughout the Commonwealth.  These include the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Framingham Community Partners, the National Guard, Rosie’s Place, the YWCA and Workforce Central.
