AMERICAN CONSUMER CREDIT COUNSELING PROVIDES FREE BUDGETING EDUCATION AS PART OF STATE-SPONSORED MONEY CONFERENCE

Non-profit consumer debt counseling agency to provide critical education to consumers on budgeting tools and improving their financial habits

(Boston, MA) – May 21st, 2012- American Consumer Credit Counseling was in Fall River this past Saturday providing consumers with important information on developing smart spending habits. The Newton based non-profit served as one of several key community organizations who participated in this free event presented by the Office of the Massachusetts State Treasury and the Massachusetts Financial Literacy Fund. For the past five years, ACCC has been a key member of the Money Conference, which annually hosts several events throughout the Commonwealth to help thousands of consumers improve their financial literacy.

“We are honored to have the opportunity each year to educate consumers on the importance of developing and maintaining a budget,” said Steve Trumble, President and CEO of ACCC. “In today’s distressed economy budgeting is an important first step to improving financial behavior and achieving your financial goals.”

According to a recent national survey released by American Consumer Credit Counseling, 25 percent of respondents reported an increased need for further education in the areas of daily and monthly budgets. A separate National Foundation for Credit Counseling survey found that more than half of all U.S. adults admit they do not have a budget.

At the event, ACCC staffed an exhibit booth with members of the organization’s budget education and counseling team and led a breakout session focused on changing the way consumers think about and maintain household budgets. “I am delighted to be part of Money Conference and this much needed service,” said Sue Katz, Community Educator of ACCC.  “I look forward to participating in this event and providing vital budget and credit education to individuals and families.”
