American Consumer Credit Counseling Launches Innovative Corporate Wellness Program

Leading non-profit debt management organization encourages employees to increase awareness of positive health behaviors and make healthy lifestyle changes

Boston, MA (March 29, 2012)— American Consumer Credit Counseling announced today the launch of a new, comprehensive Employee Wellness Program to support and enhance the health and well being of the organization’s more than 100 staff members.

“The concern for employee wellness is an increasing trend for businesses, the benefits of which can be seen in reduced health risks and health-care costs and increased morale,” said Steve Trumble, President and CEO of ACCC. “We recognize that our staff is the organization’s greatest asset and we hope that this Wellness program will promote healthier lifestyle choices so that our team members can be their best both in and outside of the office.”

As a non-profit credit counseling agency, each day team members at ACCC help consumers overcome mounting debt and plan for a financially sound future, which has the potential to create stress in their own lives. ACCC’s Wellness Program aims to combat this by increasing awareness of positive health behaviors, motivating employees to voluntarily adopt these behaviors and providing opportunities and a supportive environment to foster positive lifestyle changes. By learning how to better manage their own health, finances, and stress, employees are better equipped to engage and help consumers who are facing potentially similar challenges.

The specifics of the program were developed based on an extensive survey of employees’ interest in wellness initiatives and preferences regarding events, topics and times. More than 100 ACCC team members participate in the voluntary wellness program, which includes activities such as walking groups, fitness programs, and an educational series led by health educators, nutritionists, mental health professionals and certified fitness instructors. In addition, ACCC challenges program participants each month to meet a health or fitness goal and to track progress and share insight and ideas among one another through the organization’s newly created monthly WellFit Newsletter.

To start off the program, ACCC has partnered with Tufts Medical Center to host a health assessment that will provide employees with current health information such as blood pressure and other vital statistics. This will provide a baseline for employees to work from throughout the course of the next program and help to establish clear personal goals.

Each quarter, ACCC will conduct a survey of the program participants to gain additional feedback and insights to guide program improvements and changes throughout the course of the year.
