If you are about to take the first step toward financial freedom and debt elimination by calling ACCC at 800-769-3571, it’s important that you are prepared for your budget counseling session with a certified credit advisor. Prior to making the call for free credit counseling advice, there are several things you should have easily accessible including your most recent pay stubs, your most recent credit card statements with account numbers and balances (this will be extremely helpful if you and the advisor decide ACCC’s debt management program is the best debt solution for you), and a list of all of your periodic expenses. Periodic expenses include things like your rent or mortgage, utilities, groceries, and car expenses. It’s important to know how much you spend in these categories because a large portion of your counseling session be spent analyzing your budget to determine the best possible debt solution for you. Also, be sure you will be able to dedicate at least 60 minutes to speak with your credit advisor. If you are prepared it will be helpful to both you and your advisor to allow for the most accurate picture of your financial situation to be painted.

Joe: Hi, I’m Joe Beston, certified credit counselor in American Consumer Credit Counseling. I’m here today to talk to you about how to prepare for a budget counseling session with one of our trained professionals.

Prior to making the call there’s a list of things that you should gather. Your most recent pay stubs, credit card statements and having the account numbers and balances will be beneficial to you if you enroll in our event management plan. As well as a list of your monthly and periodic expenses such as rent, mortgage, groceries, utilities and car expenses.

A large portion of your counseling session will be spent going over your budget. We’ll ask you some detailed information regarding your financial situation. It’s needed so that we can provide you with the best plan of action.

Also make sure that you’ll be able to dedicate at least 60 minutes to speak with our counselor in an undistracted environment. Being prepared for counseling session is helpful to both you and your counselor and it allows for the most accurate picture of your financial situation to be painted.
