Student Loan Programs

Seeking student loan programs to pay off your debt?

For graduates carrying a lot of college debt and having difficulty repaying student loans, there are a number of student loan programs that can help to make student debt more manageable.

Student loan repayments can be a financial burden for many consumers, from recent graduates to people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Students who are eager to get an education from the college of their choice often take large loans from private, state and federal student loan programs without considering the financial impact on their life after school. Many graduates leave school with so much debt that they are prevented from reaching other financial goals like getting married, saving for retirement or buying a home.

American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) can help. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people take control of their finances and get out of debt for good. From credit counseling to a low-cost debt management plan and free educational materials, we offer a wealth of resources that can help you manage your student loans more easily.

Depending on your financial situation and financial goals, our counselors may recommend one or more of the following options to help you pay down your student debt.

  • Repayment plans. Fortunately, you are not stuck with the repayment plan you received when you first graduated from school. There are many student loan programs that offer repayment plans to lower your monthly payment or tie the amount of your payment to your income.
  • Student debt forgiveness programs. These student loan programs are designed to encourage graduates to go into less lucrative fields like teaching, public service, the military and healthcare by forgiving a portion or all of their student loans.
  • Student loans consolidation. These student loan programs provide debt relief by consolidating student loans with high interest rates into a new loan with a lower interest rate.
  • Deferment and forbearance. Depending on your financial situation, you may qualify for student loan programs that enable you to suspend your student loan payments until you are in a better place financially.
