My biggest fear was how it would affect my credit score, but I decided I would rather do this and show my creditors I was making an honest effort to pay them and keep my payments current, instead of falling further and further behind and hurting my credit report worse. I researched for 3 months before finding a company I was comfortable using. ACCC has been wonderful. With the money I have been saving on interest I have actually managed to pay a few bills off and increase my monthly disbursement amount. If I have any concerns or issues with the creditors I have listed with them, ACCC is always there to help straightened the situation out. I have a well paying job and wasn't having problems paying my credit cards. All of a sudden the credit card companies increased my interest rates up to 29%. I had never had late payments or over limit fees - yet they still wouldn't reduce my rates. So I was only able to make minimum payments and knew that was a dead end. I contacted a debt settlement company but I wasn't comfortable with what they offered; also they wouldn't give me a clear answer as to the tax consequences of debt settlement. I just felt that since it was my debt I shouldn't try to get out of re-paying it. So I called ACCC and after going through the information and enrollment process I knew it was the right decision - financially and morally.

After seeing the changes that lied ahead on the government regulations on credit card companies the letters started coming about new charges and increased interest rates. Some were going to start charging annual fees, which I had never paid before . I tried contacting the credit card companies on my own and they would not work with me! When I did the math and figured out what I would end up paying on the balances owed, I decided to call ACCC! It was the best call I've made in years!! I would recommend it to anyone fretting over credit card payments! I have been a good credit card holder for all these years and if they wanted my business they should have & could have worked with me! I feel they left me no choice! Some wanted to increase my interest from 8-11% to 20-28% that is ridiculous, it is robbery! They made sure that they were going to get this done before the new laws went into effect! I've been trying to rebuild my credit history for years. And staying on top of all the minimum payments after the credit card companies raised them, was putting a strain on my finances. Now, thanks to ACCC, I'm making one payment, I can afford, and saving a ton on interest and late fees.

Before I made the call to ACCC, I was fearful that I would be making minimum credit card payments for the rest of my life - and if lucky - living paycheck to paycheck in the mean time. I had a bleak outlook on retirement possibilities and felt that I would be lucky if I could manage to maintain our house and utility payments such that we would not be forced into bankruptcy. After my call to ACCC, I was very skeptical about the news I was given - that I could actually be out from under my debt in 49 months! I had already called friends (with money) and had offered to pay a higher monthly payment for 60 months! Fortunately for me, my friends had taken a hit with the stock market and were not able to help me at that time - so I called ACCC at their suggestion! I am now three months into the program and see that my monthly payments are being made on time with a total payment out of my pocket slightly less than what I had been paying already - but with an end date of 46 months (and decreasing) away from being totally out from under my credit card debtors (FOREVER!)...Many thanks to ACCC for their ability to work with me (and others like me) to bring some level of hope into an otherwise hopeless situation.

After having a baby and my husband losing his job all in the same year, things were very hard for us. My husband did find another job but it was at a $40,000 pay cut per year - which made it virtually impossible for us to pay our bills. We went through all of our savings and were completely at a loss for what our next steps would be in digging ourselves out of debt. My employer began offering the ACC program through the Employee Assistance Program and I decided to make a phone call. The counselor was fantastic - very informative and professional. When you think there is no one to help solve your financial crisis, don't give up . My five credit card bills were almost at the $5,000 mark. I had to do something . I am a responsible person and before I called anyone I did research and called the Better Business Bureau. I did not want to deal with a company out of state. Upon entering the program I had a good credit score and I was current on all my payments but unable to save any money or contribute to my retirement.
