Boston, MA – August 11, 2017

Annual Reality Fair for State House internsNational nonprofit American Consumer Credit Counseling partnered with the Massachusetts Jump$tart Coalition, City of Boston Credit Union, Mass Bay Credit Union, and Metro Credit Union to sponsor the 4th annual Reality Fair for State House interns on Thursday, July 27. Ninety interns, consisting of freshman in high school to college students and post grads, participated in the event that focused on responsible financial decision making.

“We are honored to have been part of the 4th annual reality fair at the Massachusetts State House,” said Steve Trumble, President, and CEO of American Consumer Credit Counseling, based in Newton, MA. “It is imperative that students are introduced to real life examples so that they can be prepared and aware of how to live their best financial lives in the future.”

American Consumer Credit Counseling’s Matt Paradise, education and development team leader and trainer, and Clete Thomas, certified credit & housing counselor and community outreach coordinator, engaged the interns on a variety of issues. This included discussions on how individuals can protect themselves from identity theft, the importance of budgeting and preparing for the financial future.

The goal of the Reality Fair is to provide financial education for students through lectures, teamwork stations, and discussions so that young people have the opportunity to learn about budgeting, spending and managing their finances. During the event, participants were given a financial profile and spent the afternoon making financial decisions about housing, transportation, investments, credit cards and student loans.
