Tuesday Tip – Finding a Debt Free Community

The idea of a debt free community is great. You can share your goals, setbacks, and successes with a group of people who are going through the same thing you are. You can share advice and encouragement and push each other not to give up when times get tough. It really does sound awesome… but where do you find a debt free community?

Literally anywhere. Here are some examples of where you can reach out and join (or even start!) a debt free community.

Facebook Groups

In this day in age, most people have a Facebook account. Tons of people are open about their debt management and post updates about their goings-on all the time. Whether it’s a status update, a photo upload, or even a discussion about coupons, the conversations are happening. Jump in there! There are even Facebook groups dedicated to debt and money related topics. Do a quick search and you should be golden.

Many communities have their own town or city Facebook pages chock full of people who live near you. Try adding a post asking if anyone knows of a group, or maybe even start your own! You’ll be surprised by how many people are dealing with debt and want a chance to share.

Instagram

I know, it sounds unconventional at first, but think about it. There are tons of Instagram accounts completely dedicated to becoming “debt free” or sharing their “debt management journey” with others. Search the common buzz words and I promise, tons of results will flood your screen. You can also try searching hashtags for some results. #DebtFree #Budgeting #DebtFreeCommunity #ManagingDebt and even #CreditRepair are just a few ideas that should yield results.

Despite your first thought, Instagram is actually a great platform for finding a debt free community. People post super helpful pictures of progress charts, journals, their newest goals, and even pictures of their bills to show what’s going on in their debt journey. You can learn a lot and have some fun while feeling a part of something. Instagram debt free communities are a great reminder that you’re not alone in any of your struggles and allows you to share your achievements. Show them off! Get artsy with becoming debt free.

Pinterest

Pinterest isn’t just for planning your perfect wedding. But, it can help you plan a wedding on a budget, make DIY holiday decorations, show great budgeting worksheets, and more! A lot of people may think Pinterest is an odd choice, but really the website is designed to help ordinary people get some great ideas. With almost any search, you can find some helpful ways to live the life you enjoy while saving money. DIY, vacations on a budget, fashion trends for less, managing student loans, and way WAY more. Pinterest is the spot to get and share cool ideas with others that don’t cost a fortune. The site helps us live up to our own lifestyles in a more financially manageable way.

Websites

Yes, there are entire websites dedicated to debt free communities. Go ahead and google it. A quick search and you can easily find communities where you can read stories from people going through a very similar situation. From struggling to maintain a budget to getting on that coupon grind, debt free communities have it all. And they are right at the tip of your fingertips – literally.
