ACCC receives grant to provide Operation Money Wise Brockton VA financial workshop series for homeless veterans

Boston, MA – June 26, 2019

Support Homeless VeteransNational nonprofit American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) announced today it has received a $5,000 grant from the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s office and the Baker-Polito Administration’s Division of Banks for Operation Money Wise Brockton, VA for the second year. The grant will support an eight-month financial workshop series to address the financial challenges and educational needs of homeless veterans committed to recovery from mental health and addiction problems in a residential therapeutic setting. ACCC is based in Newton, MA.

“We are extremely grateful to have the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s office and the Division of Banks’ support for the Operation Money Wise program that will help more local veterans than ever before,” said Steve Trumble, President and CEO of American Consumer Credit Counseling. “This eight-month workshop series will provide our local homeless veterans with the education and resources needed to help them move forward financially.”

With this grant, ACCC will be able to serve 300 at-risk veterans, a two percent target goal increase, over the course of eight months, ending in November 2019. The workshop series will encompass money management workshops, and one-on-one financial coaching sessions with targeted materials to help address the specific financial challenges faced by this vulnerable population.

The program will include a series workshop taught by expert financial counselors and will focus on various aspects of financial management, including budgeting, credit management and identity theft. It will also feature one-on-one financial coaching sessions based on the specific financial needs of individual participants. Because credit directly impacts veterans’ ability to move towards self-sufficiency, secure housing and employment, Operation Money Wise Brockton VA will provide an emphasis on understanding credit.
