Free Library Resources For Kids

February is National Library Lover’s month. To celebrate, we are talking about some of the great free library resources available for kids. Using the library is an excellent way to maintain your debt management progress and still give children a variety of fun.

When you're paying off debt, free library resources come in handy for your kids.

When you’re paying off debt, free library resources come in handy for your kids.

Make the Most of Free Library Resources for Kids

As a new mom myself, I never paid that much attention to the kid’s services at the library. Luckily, there are a ton of free library resources! While every library is different, depending on their own funding, size and demographics they serve, the following options are fairly common. Be sure to ask about them at your next visit to the library to see what your specific branch has to offer.

When you start taking advantage of these resources, the money you save can be used for eliminating credit card debt. Every dollar counts! You’d be surprised how much you can save over the course of a month by utilizing the library more.

Free Library Resources for Toddlers

For your little toddlers, many libraries have story time or singalong programs. These programs are typically a weekly occurrence that you register for. They usually last around 30 minutes to accommodate the shorter attention spans of the kids. This is a great way for the kids to have a positive learning experience from another adult. They also get time with other kids. Let’s not forget about you! There are lots of moms, grandparents and other guardians there to meet as well.

Another great free library resource for toddlers is the play area. If your library is big enough to have a children’s area, there will probably be some toys available there to play with whenever you need to get out of the house. There might even be a toddler play session at times in a bigger area with bigger sized toys. Toys, especially the big ones, can be expensive to purchase on your own. Rather than spend the money there, use it towards debt elimination.

Besides the usually scheduled programming, keep an eye out for special events. Your library may host a guest speaker, children’s book author, or have a little festival from time-to-time. If they haven’t done something like this in the past, make a request! Librarians and library staff are very helpful and ready to serve the public. They want to hear from you.

Finally, there are so many wonderful books to borrow. Toddlers have their favorites, but there are plenty of opportunities to borrow books for a while and return them. This is the perfect way to spoil your little ones without it costing an arm and a leg. You can also decide to purchase a few of the books that become favorites once you know for sure.

Instead of spending money on toys and books when facing consumer debt, head down to the library. Making free library resources a regular part of the routine can have a big impact on your budget and spending habits.

If you’re struggling to pay off debt, ACCC can help. Schedule a free credit counseling session with us today.
