Tuesday Tip: Start Buying Low-Maintenance Clothes

When shopping for clothes, most people are only concerned with two things: how it looks and how much it costs. Most of the time, this is exactly what you should be thinking about for clothing purchases. However, the cost to care for the clothes should also be considered. If you’re working on debt management, you don’t want any extra expenses. Start buying low-maintenance clothes as a way to save money.

Our debt counselors believe low-maintenance clothes are usually a better deal.

Save Money With Low-Maintenance Clothes

As we all know, clothing comes in all sorts of materials, colors, sizes and quality levels. Different clothing materials have different instructions for proper care. Some are machine washable while some are dry clean only, or need to be hand washed and dried flat. This can add additional costs and time out of your day just to maintain a piece of clothing. Not only that, but they may even require special detergents.

This may not be a very big deal for everyone, but it can be a hassle for some. If you are one of those people, then consider the cleaning requirements of a piece of clothing before making the purchase. Buying low-maintenance clothes might alleviate some of those extra care costs and save time. The more you can adhere to proper care, the longer your clothes will last and the more you can avoid consumer debt.

Look for items that can run together in the same water temperature, preferably cold, and can be tumbled dried low. This setting can usually accommodate other pieces as well that may say to run at a higher dryer setting. They will do just fine together. However, make sure to hang dry special items. It really does make a difference.

Best of luck to your wallet and your laundry!
