Scholarships for Military Families

Some military families may be able to avoid student loan debt by giving their dependent the GI Bill. However, if you have already used the GI Bill on another family member, don’t worry! There is a wide variety of scholarships for military families that can help pay for tuition, books, and even on-campus room and board.

  1. Scholarships for Military Children Program – Fisher House Foundation runs this scholarship program that offers $2,000 scholarships to unmarried dependents younger than 23 who wish to attend college. Moreover, you can use scholarships for tuition, books, lab supplies, and other school fees.
  2. Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship – Children who have a parent who died or became disabled while serving on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001, are eligible for this scholarship. The amount awarded varies from year to year depending on how much is donated to the scholarship program. You can use this scholarship for all the same purposes as the Scholarships for Military Children Program.
  3. Earl Jennings Puckett Memorial Scholarship – You can use this $5,000 scholarship for tuition, school fees, books, and on-campus room and board. You must be under 23 and an unmarried dependent of veterans with a 10% disability rating or higher to qualify. Additionally, applicants must be enrolled or accepted in an accredited college or vocational institution in the U.S.
  4. ThanksUSA Scholarship – Lastly, this opportunity is open to unmarried children under age 24 and spouses of military personnel. The amount varies, but this scholarship can cover a few thousand dollars up to full-tuition costs!
